This is Eric Warncke, the founder of Search Engine Courier in Raleigh, North Carolina. I’ve been doing SEO since 2007, when I accidentally learned to optimize websites for search engines by running the world’s most popular Beach Boys blog out of my freshman dorm at Johnson and Wales University. What started as a passion project—sharing zip files of live recordings and bootlegs—turned into a big success. The blog had millions of visits, has ranked #1 for “Beach Boys Blog” on Google for over 17 years, and even led to lifelong friendships and invitations to some very cool weddings.
That experience taught me what search engines really want: content created by experts (no one knows more about Beach Boys bootlegs than me), a reason to keep coming back (what’s the next download?), and the technical foundations of SEO (keywords, meta tags, UX, speed, and backlinks). Most importantly, it showed me the power of passion-driven content and how it can connect people.
Since then, I’ve helped over 1,000 companies drive $100M+ in sales through organic traffic, working with some of the best agencies in the country and learning from the industry’s top minds.
